Leather and Lace by Samantha Cole

A romance author, Kristen Anders, is beginning anew. Freshly divorced and on her own, she continues to support herself through her romance writing, however, her successful romance career is about to take a turn. Anders finds a character from her latest book steering her into the BDSM world. Research leads her to an elite BDSM club, The Covenant, which former Navy SEAL Devon “Devil Dog” Sawyer and his brothers own. They also own a private security and body guard business called Trident Security.
“Kristen turned back towards Master Mitch. He hadn’t been what she expected either, which, she would be embarrassed to admit, was an older, brooding, vampire-like looking man, dressed head to toe in leather. … Despite his friendly demeanor, she could imagine him quickly transforming into a commanding Dom with submissives dropping to their knees to please him.”
Anders has led an uneventful sex and love life – frigid was the term used by her ex-husband. She is soon to discover that she is NOT frigid. Devon has led a semi-detached dating life, focusing on work and playing scenes at his club … that is until he meets Anders. Then begins the slow dance of bringing Anders into his world of BDSM and he finds himself thrilled to discover that she’s not only interested but willing to try it out with him! Everything Sawyer has known is changing and everything Anders has dreamed about is coming true! Neither one of them counted on falling in love or becoming a target to a deadly and accurate assassin.
“Someone’s hunting SEALs.” Devon hated to state what they were all thinking but it needed to be said.”
Samantha Cole does an excellent job of taking an often misunderstood lifestyle and presenting it in a romantic and exciting manner while also maintaining reality. In other words, as Anders is being trained to be a sub, the reader is gaining an intuitive insight into the real lifestyle.
This is an excellent first in a quickly growing series. I found it more entertaining and more realistic than 50 Shades of Grey. I recommend this series and author for anyone who enjoys a good romantic book with a few twists and some well written erotica. While her descriptions were vivid they were tastefully done. Cole develops her characters well and fully. She never loses sight of the plot either.
