Annalise’s Up and Down Day by Denise L. Jenne
WordsAPlenty received a copy of Annalise’s Up and Down Day by Denise L. Jenne in exchange for an honest review.
A fun, well, written children’s book that explores one day in the life of 3 year old Annalise and reinforces the different meanings of Up and Down.
The book is easy to read, short and written so that children can easily follow along, Annalise is a new favorite among my granddaughters (having read it to them last night several times). The words are printed large thus making it easy for children to learn letters as well as meanings.
Along with Annalise, children learn the meaning of up and down, through her daily adventure. Denise Jenne captures the inner working of a child’s mind and takes the learning to their level in ways that most adults would miss.
The illustrations by Julie Iannone are wonderful! Her use of color and details increases the children’s interest. To demonstrate the opposites the page is divided providing a visual distinction. The drawing of the living room with a teddy bear, blocks, ball, guitar, crayons, dolls and tea set are delightful. Toys down, Pick up is never what a child wants to do but Julie’s art makes it fun.
One of my favorite scenes in the book is Annalise reading with her father, Read Up, Eyelids Down. The book includes both mom and dad interacting actively with Annalise.
A delightful book that children will love over and over and over!
