The Travelers and the Four Doors of Artew (Volume 1) by Dennis Garber

April 22, 2016 Charla Review - Submitted

WordsAPlenty received a copy of The Travelers and the Four Doors of Artew (Volume 1) by Dennis Garber in exchange for an honest review.

Will Cole just turned thirteen and was given the gift of a life-time – The Book of Worlds.   Cole learns that not everything is as it appears; for example, he is more than a 13 year old Sioux who lives in Alaska with his father and grandmother.  He is a traveler who is also part alien!  His role in life just changed as well.  He is now the fixer of things gone wrong in the Universe.

They had to wait until Will was born and reach his age of awakening.  Each Traveler has certain skills, and only The Book of Worlds knows who and which Traveler to send where they are needed.  No Traveler could come sooner because each had their specific abilities.

Cole discovers friends that are a menagerie of characters who walk beside him and help right the wrongs of the Shedu – evil aliens who stole water and wreaked havoc upon Kroy.  Unable to return home to his father and grandmother, Cole must unite a world together to fight the evil Shedu righting the wrong and allow him passage back home.

Dennis Garber, author, creates a wonderful world for Cole to travel to first.  The creatures/characters are described in solid details.  The interaction between the characters is realistic and satisfying.  One cannot help but root for Cole and his friends to succeed.

Garber also demonstrates that prejudices are strong and take faith and education to overcome.  It was exciting to watch the different groups come together for a common purpose. Garber does an excellent job of capturing what young adults worry about and focus on in life; he shows them different ways to resolve them – meditating, patience, be watchful, trust, faith, etc.

I enjoyed reading this book and couldn’t wait to see how Cole would resolve his situation. his is a must read for young adults who love adventure and fantasy.  I cannot wait for Cole and Bot’s next adventure!

Words-A-Plenty gives this book a 4.5 star rating.

Watching from the Shadows: Trident Security Book 5 by Samantha Cole

April 11, 2016 Charla Review - Submitted

New Release April 21, 2016

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Marco DeAngelis is a retired Navy SEAL and an employee of Trident Security.  Marco is a man of few words but is a man of action. Strong, intelligent, careful and trained he has undertaken many assignments facing life and death but never has he ever faced a challenge like this!

Marco is a confirmed, dominant bachelor who has made it very well known that there would be NO Mrs. DeAngelis or rug rats running around.  There has only been one woman in Marco’s life and that was his sister; until she passed away from Cancer.  Well, almost only one woman in his life; then again, there was the night of the funeral …

13 months after his sister’s funeral, Marco reconnects with his sister’s best friend, Harper who is seriously injured when a botched burglary goes wrong. Imagine his surprise when he discovers by accident that his life just became a bundle of joy!

Now it’s up to Marco and the Trident Security men and their women to help keep Harper safe; someone is out to kill Harper and keeps leaving Marco little presents.  Will Marco keep Harper safe and still keep his heart intact?

Samantha Cole is a very talented storyteller.  She expertly weaves a story that leaves her readers constantly wanting more!  Her series is focused on the men of Trident Security – mostly all members of the BDSM community and their women.  Tastefully done, Cole intertwines romance, BDSM, mystery, action and passion into each of her stories.

She is an accomplished author who cleverly adds in twists and surprises with each novel.  Her novels are realistic and well researched.  Watching from the Shadows, like all her other novels was brilliantly developed with a solid plot and each character was smartly developed.

I enjoy reading Cole’s series and look forward to each one.

WordsAPlenty awards Samantha Cole and Watching from the Shadows a 5 star review.

The Clay Remembers: Book 1 in the Clay Series by Sharon K. Miller

April 8, 2016 Charla Review - Submitted

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.  Sharon Miller is an indieBRAG MEDALLION HONOREE.

We all hope to meet and fall in love with our soul mates, but for Ann Robinson, her husband, Foster was not that person.  Abusive, cruel and controlling Foster silenced Anna as only a man of his demeanor does well.

An intelligent woman, Anna escapes and finds home in Arizona.  Doing what she loves most, Anna joins an archaeological team and begins to dig for remnants of the past – not hers but the Native American’s long gone.  Her unique gift allows her to connect with those long ago people, her preternatural ability to touch sherds of pottery allow her to connect to the past through touch, sight and smell.

“You did touch her.  The clay brought her to you.  Every piece of ancient pottery on this land has a maker, and a story, and a song.  They say “the clay remembers the hands that made it.” You don’t need to be Native American and you don’t need to know why it happens.  Celebrate it.  Open your mind and heart to the stories the earth wants you to hear.”

Although Anna is able to give voice to the silent women of the past, she struggles to overcome her abuser and begin life anew.  She knows how important it is to her to find her inner voice and strength; it could mean life or death!

The Clay Remembers is a touching, positive and insightful story with emotional depth that reader cannot help but experience.  Every woman should have her voice and power; Sharon Miller demonstrates the importance through Anna.  A masterful storyteller, Miller makes powerful connections to her readers through her book.

Miller does not allow her readers to become bogged down with negative feelings; there is laughter, love and lightness to the story that does not take away from her message.

Miller’s inclusion of historically accurate information is a treat; deeply researched.  Well written with superb character development; plot development is excellent as well.  Her insight into different personalities is strong.

This is an excellent book.  Methodical, Miller builds a story and it plays out smoothly and meaningfully.  A first time author, Miller hits a homerun.  A true storyteller, Miller will continue to wow her readers.

WordsAPlenty gives this book a well-deserved 5 star rating.

Hysterical Love by Lorraine Devon Wilke

April 6, 2016 Charla Review - Submitted

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.  Lorraine Devon Wilke is a two time indieBRAG MEDALLION HONOREE.

Dan McDowell has sought neatness, order and a clear cut path in his life.  His plans to marry Jane fit within his needs and desires.  That is until he puts his foot in his mouth and the chaos begins.  He reveals after a moment of intimacy that he had had a few encounters with his ex-girlfriend prior to when his and Jane’s exclusiveness began.  Jane, of course, doesn’t see it that way and promptly kicks him out of their home.

Weeks of being ignored and not solving their issues weighs on Dan’s mind along with his father’s heart attack and the upheaval his life has become both at home and work.  His sister Lucy gives him a manuscript his father wrote when he was a young man.  In it is his “theory of soul mates.”

Dan sets out to give his father some peace and while doing so finds answers for his father and himself.

“Okay.  I’ll just say it.  I guess I’m a little stuck on this soul mate thing.  … Yep, I’d become the girl.  The girl who didn’t want to get down until she knew it “meant something.”

Dan is a photographer by trade with a keen eye for artistic photos.  He’s a good son, brother and friend; however, he is clueless when it comes to romantic relationships.  He meets a woman and falls in love with her questioning whether or not they are soul mates.

“Hysterical Love.”

“What?”

“A case of Hysterical Love … in the clinical sense.”

I felt like he’d jabbed me with a needle.  “Is that a real thing?”

“Just think about it.”

Lorraine Devon Wilke has captured and expressively written about the one dilemma that most couples encounter when they become serious – are they soul mates?  Will they love one another forever?  Will they be happy having only one person in their life to love forever?  Further, she has taken the stereotypical role of the woman and placed it firmly on the man’s shoulder; skillfully turning the table and providing a fresh and unique glimpse into a man’s thoughts and world of romance.  Within the first few pages, you cannot help but side with Jane but as Dan’s journey leads to self-discovery; you cannot help but see him differently and feel his confusion.

Wilke is passionate about the development of her characters as they come to life with each word.  The reader cannot help but connect to her characters.  The plot is strong, fresh, balanced and delivered skillfully.   It is a moving story and is a must read for anyone who has been, is, or thinks they may fall in love someday.

Don’t miss this book.  It is a wonderful read. Wilke is a truly gifted writer and one  to watch grow; she will continue to provide thought provoking stories based on real issues.

WordsAPlenty gives this book a highly deserved 5 star rating.
