Entrance (Thornhill Trilogy Book 1) by J. J. Sorel

November 17, 2017 Charla Review - Submitted

A hot contemporary romance, J.J. Sorel introduces her audience to Clarissa Moone and her new hot hot hot boss Aidan.  Aidan has a murky past but Clarissa doesn’t really care, her skin sizzles when he’s nearby and her breath is taken when he touches her.

Aidan, quiet and conservative finds himself falling for Clarissa at first sight!  Aidan is treading where he has never been before – a beautiful, quiet woman with a smile that removes all darkness.  Her virginal body and engaging intelligence send him into a lustful desire and passion.

Together they must explore their relationship amidst gossip, lust, revenge and more.  This is a story where love and passion must win but will the past allow them to do so?

J.J. Sorel’s Entrance is an engaging read for anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.  Well written, Sorel details the story in an engaging manner and vividly describes the characters and their actions to perfection.  The romance scenes are not overdone, rather they are written in a tasteful and realistic style.  It is emotional and satisfying, yet describes accurately the doubts and struggles couples have in their relationships at times.

I enjoyed how each chapter identified who the voice was so the viewpoints were clear.  It also allowed her audience a clearer view of each person. Sorel knows how to captivate her audience and provide an absorbing tale of love, sex, and relationships.  Masterful storyteller, Sorel gives her audience what they want in a bewitching style.

Gilchrist by Christian Galacar

November 10, 2017 Charla Review - Submitted

Gilchrist by Christian Galacar is terrifying.  Stephen King made his readers afraid of clowns, cars and so much more; Christian Galacar WILL make you afraid of small towns and memories!  Peter Martell and his wife start anew in small town Gilchrist to recover from the death of their son. What they don’t count on is the unseen evil that lives just below the surface of the town, just barely out of sight but horrifyingly and dangerously real!  Nothing is coincidental in this town and no one is safe.

I LOVED this book!  In the beginning the book flowed smoothly, had the appearance and feel of one of those feel-good books (I thought the horror was the death of the little boy and the family recovering) but NO!  Galacar does not let you off that easy!!!  Instead, you are treated to the darkness and origin of evil.  It was one shock after another, Galacar skillfully manipulates the reader’s emotions like a pianist playing Bach.

Galacar builds each character to its fullest potential and weaves them into carefully plotted storylines leaving very little unanswered.  I finished reading this book two days ago; it took me this long to absorb the book in its entirety – what seemed to be coincidental, the differing levels of depravity, and hope.  I could not put this book down.

Bad by Accident by Henry Blumenthal

November 9, 2017 Charla Review - Submitted

Bad by Accident by Henry Blumenthal is a light, fun read, doused with mystery and moral lessons that are very poignant yet not overbearing.  Joe Green, a lawyer, tells the story about a couple of his court cases as well as the deadly stalking he is experiencing – someone is out to get him!  The book is well developed with character development rich.  Readers cannot help but connect with Joe Green and several of his clients.  Clean, fast-paced, and well written!

Blumenthal gives his readers issues to ponder and how they intersect – sexuality, violence, medication, lies and as parents, how can we define why our children are different.   I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys conflict of laws, light thrillers, mysteries and a touch of romance.   Easy fast read that you won’t be able to put down!

I hope Blumenthal grows a Joe Green series!

The Henge by Devra Robitaille

November 6, 2017 Charla Review - Submitted

The Henge is a story about the members of the Noble Village of the Arts and their neighbors.  It has been foreseen and announced in a prophecy; it is time that Concinnity Song and her two brothers bring home the singing stone once it is located.  One of her brothers discovers the singing stone at the bottom of a quarry filled with water.  The stone holds magical powers.  In order to protect the world, the stone must be harvested and moved to a specific location on the night of the solstice.  The magical power of music and the stone’s ability to sing makes transporting it easier but no less complicated.

Among some, there is jealousy and a driven need to possess the huge stone.  Time is of the essence.  Not only is a battle fought but there is a question as to whether the world will survive the storms and fires that will come if they fail in their quest to raise the stone properly.

Devra Robitaille builds the story slowly but with riveting details.  Robitaille carefully weaves the story around the characters, developing both with a realism that enables the reader to vividly visualize both through her words.  The message of the story is simple yet timelessly true.  Robitaille throws in a few twists and keeps building the action and excitement until the last page.

A must read!  I have read several of Robitaille’s book and find them thoroughly engrossing and engaging.  She knows her audience and knows how her craft well.  I enjoy her talented writing and dexterity in telling stories.

Road Kill Texas Horror by Texas Authors, Volume 2

November 2, 2017 Charla Review - Submitted

This book was submitted for an honest review.

Road Kill 2 is a tantalizing, terrifying mix of short stories based in Texas.  A common theme, besides all being set in Texas, is being in the wrong place at the wrong time and karma. In this review, I have selected just a few to mention but I can guarantee you will be scared out of your pants!

As seen in “The Back Forty” by S. Kay Nash, The Sheriff, Jim Hollis finds himself in a DEA hosted drug raid where all turns out well … until Mr. Thompson decides to teach him a lesson.  In “Cemetery Games” by Keith West, Greg finds that the sins of the father come back to haunt him with some horrifying results!  Dennis Pitts’ “The Road Trip” is enough to scare people from traveling beyond their living room!

With seventeen authors penning seventeen of the most terrifying, mind-numbing horror stories one cannot help but sleep with the lights on after reading this amazing collection. Each story is well written and complete with fully developed characters and detailed instances. It is frightening to know that these creative minds are out there and they know how to successfully get into the minds of their readers!

Thoroughly loved each and every story!  A must-read for anyone who loves horror!
