The Butcher’s Block by Lucienne Boyce

Award Winning B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree
The Butcher’s Block written by Lucienne Boyce is about Dan Foster, a Bow Street Runner, in London during the 1700-1800’s when body snatching and grave robbing was rampant. Foster, has many talents and uses them to uncover who killed a Fellow Bow Street Runner while also uncovering a terrorist plot!
Boyce develops each character solidly and with depth. The story is deliberately slow-paced as it provides the “feeling” of placing the reader within that time period where things moved slowly and methodically. Boyce also knows how to pull the heartstrings – specifically with the homeless kids helping with the investigation. The plot is full unexpected developments that provide the reader with several ah-ha moments.
While there are historical references, they are subtle, intriguing and keep the plot moving. This book is part 2 in a series but can be read as a stand-alone. A great book to read and get lost in! Highly recommend it.
