In the Land of Broken Time: The Incredible Journey by Maria and Max Evan

December 22, 2016 Charla Review - Submitted

The goal of WordsAPlenty is to share reviews on books giving readers a heads-up on worthwhile and interesting books.  Books worth investing their time and money.  WordsAPlenty offers such a review for In the Land of Broken Time: The Incredible Journey written by Maria and Max Evan.

This is a story about a young boy who longs to visit the circus but is not allowed since he had been ill.  However, as with most children (and adults) young Christopher sneaks off to the circus and meets both Sophie and the circus’s golden retriever named Duke.  Hiding in a hot air balloon, the three set off on an adventure that will teach them about clocks, time, friendship, challenges and honor.

In the Chronos Forest, the three accidentally mess up “time” and as a result they encounter an eccentric type professor and his evil twin brother, the Regent.  It is up to the three of them to save the town.  Along the way, the two children learn that not all things are as they appear; rumors are not truths and there is magic in the world!

The adventures of the two children and Duke are exciting and captivating.  Children of all ages will appreciate this story told by the husband wife team, Maria and Max Evan.  A timeless story that children will love to read; a story that parents will want their children to read as it teaches them values, honesty and more.

The story is well constructed and moves smoothly from adventure to adventure.  I especially enjoyed the ending as it gives the impression this might all have been a dream but … then again, maybe not!  The characters are well developed and realistic.   This is truly an incredible journey written with love and care.  The Evans captured what every child dreams of doing – saving the day and having an adventure.

WordsAPlenty rates this book with a five-star rating for its uniqueness and creativeness. This is a fun book, one that should NOT be missed!
